So I've got a few things going on that I want to get an expert opinion on (meaning actually having a Corvette experienced person drive the car and tell me what's going on). I see J & D Corvette advertised all over this board. Any personal experiences with them? Good place to go?
Also, there's a place out here in So Cal in Anaheim called Coast Corvette. I've seen the place for 100 years but don't know anything about them. Anybody deal with them and know if they're any good?
PO of my car gave me a pile of receipts from J&D dating back to late 90s. I bought the car in 08'- so he used them alot.
Coast- had my car there to have him install a lowering kit. Store is kind of strange, quite, but the mechanic seemed knowledgable with the C4- said he hadn't done a lowering job in years on a C4, but had it done in a couple hours, so must know his way around them.

Good info! Thanks! If the rain isn't bad tomorrow, I may hit one or both of them.

Yes Coast Corvette is a little strange but they did
some good work and charged a lot for it
Apparently El Cajon is a little somewhat hidden hot rod mecca... Gear Vendors is down there too I believe... Now if it just wasn't a 2-3 hour drive from the SF Valley, I'd be down there tomorrow!
I am in the San Fernando Valley and this might be out of the way for you. But the guy I ended up using for quite a number of years was Javier who had a small but busy shop in Van Nuys. This guy was reasonable and really knew his stuff but he needed to close up the shop for financial reasons. However, he moved his operation to a nearby Mobile station at Sherman Way and Woodley.
There is also John's Corvette Shop in Canoga Park and there was another guy in Chatsworth (John Stephenson?) who seemed pretty good.
I took my 1991 ZR-1 to Corvette Mike's in Anaheim and was very happy with the service. You can jump on the Amtrak after you drop it off and drink a few beers on the way home to the valley.

John Stevenson Automotive, best GM diagnostic guy Ive ever run across has solved some drivability issues (efi) that the dealership and noone else could fix. I dont think hes around anymore but wouldnt hurt to call. If I had to have anyone work on my car it would be him the guy is super sharp, used to train GM techs.

Check these guys out. I've had excellent service from them.

I really appreciate all the input, gang! I think the week after Thanksgiving, I'll check out J & D and see what they have to say. Have a great holiday!

Greg, give Charlie at RPM Motors a call, his shop is in Santa Clarita. He specializes on C5-C6 but, a phone call is not going to cost you anything.
[QUOTE=oldalaskaman;1575985609]Havent had em do any work , but corvette speciality in Riverside has been more than fair when i needed parts[/QUOTE
I had the total oposite in dealing with them. They also treated me like a lesser owner as i was a c4 guy (bottom feeder). i have seen there work as well. they are hacks bigtime. i had asked around in the car community regarding them as was told by all "those guys are hacks". as for alaskaman having a fair dealing with them i am happy for him it worked out. a blind squirl finds a nut every now and then . he is the only one to have a positive thing to say of them. i say beware of corvette specialty in riverside. nothing is worse then spending good hard earnd money and getting a butcherd corvette in return.
Corvette Specialty on Buchanan St in Corona/Riverside is a VERY good shop.
Complete FULL service shop, super mechanics and owners and parts shop. They've done a lot of work for me and are no more expensive than any other generic shop. Often times, less so.
They're the ones on the Chop, Cut, Rebuild TV show that converted a C6 into a modern day Split Window type.
Thanks, Canine! Mine is in with J & D right now. I should be picking it up tomorrow. They're doing all kinds of little stuff... I'll let y'all know what the final outcome is.
Im sort of in agreement of Corvette Specialty in Riverside. I'm not saying the shop is not good. I did see good work going there. Its just in my case, I had to return my car there 3 times in order for them to get it fixed right. Each time they accomadated me with above average customer service. Hands down about that. Its just the fact that I live close to 100 miles away and they where made quite aware of this. I expected (an so would the average corvette owner) the repair to be done RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. Not the THIRD time. If it wasn't for the customer service, I would have been totally pissed off and never recommend them to anyone.

I've heard good things about J & D, and I know they're a big site supporter, so I'm really hoping for the best. I'm probably going to drop a GRAND by the time all is said and done. I'll give y'all some feedback on the final outcome.
