I have a 1987 Coupe with Delco Bose Radio. I have no power on the Pink wire to my right door or hatch speakers. I have gone thru my FSM and the Electrical Supplement trying to find the location of the Speaker Amplifier Relay which provides power to all 4 amplifiers. I cant locate the relay.....anyone know where it is. This way I can work back from the relay to find where I am loosing power.
The relay will be just to the right of the center of the dash. Pull the center dash trim, remove the radio, and look for a relay to the right of the cavity.
In the Electrical Supplement book, go to page 8A-201-6. It's shown in "Figure B"; not a really good pic but once you get the radio out, follow the wire harness that is above the radio and go to the right.
With the radio on, check for power from the pink wire in cavity C2. Also check for power from the orange wire going into the relay. That wire comes from the courtesy lights and clock fuse. Check the fuse (15A).
The relay sends current to all 4 speakers. There will be a pink/black wire coming out of the relay (Cavity A) that goes to a splice (S232) inside the harness above the radio where the pink/black wire goes to the left speakers and a solid pink goes to the right speakers. If the right speakers aren't working, it may be a problem with the wires coming from the solid state side of the radio (grn/lt. grn and lt. blue/dk.blue) or the radio internals are not working for that side.

George, Let everyone have a look! You're right though, not a very good pic.

Thanks, I got it. Looks like a good job for tomorrow while the
snow/ice hits us. Looking at the Pink wire, I have 0 volts between it and the black (ground) wire, with radio on playing. I feel its somewhere, either at splice S232 or after it. My left door and hatch spkr's work fine.
I'm pretty sure on mine, that splice splits front and rear, not left and right. Mine is pink/black from that splice to front speaker/amps and solid pink to the rears. You've verified 0v at the right hand speakers I assume?
The relay is attached to the left side of dash support brace with two 7mm hex head screws. I have crash pad delete, so I was able to get at it from the front. You might want to pull the seat, if your attacking from below.

Ray, you are correct, I mis read the FSM drawing. So now I am dealing with two different probable problems as both right hand speakers are dead. I have open up the rear speaker (easy to work on LOL) I have Zero volts on the pink wire at the Amp. I need to find why Zero Volts. Get the rear running, then attack the terrible door speaker/amp. I guess its possible that both power Pink and Pink/Black wires going to the right side of the car got cut/broken. Time will tell.
Nasty working under the dash. I am going to take my SHRINK pills and shrink down to 3 inches tall and then just walk around under the dash ha ha ha. Thanks for your correction !
The Right rear speaker is now working. I had been metering the 12 volt pink line in relation to the Black ground wire at the speaker, it was Zero Volts. Today I metered the Pink wire in relation to the Black ground wire at the rear left speaker. Walla..I had 12 volts. Thus the ground wire on the right rear speaker was broken. Upon close investigation, a screw holding on the hatch trim had been screwed right thru the ground wire, cutting it in half. The speakers on the right side have not worked since I bought the Vette in May. Sure sounds good to have both rear spkr's working. Now to the front right door Spkr. Arrg, I dont see any way to get to the amplifier to meter it without tearing the door apart. I'll need a large bottle of Irish Cream tomorrow LOL !

Yep, Get the BIG bottle... you're pretty much gonna have the whole door apart. Just take your time ...it's not that bad just time consuming.
Made out great on the Right front door speaker today. First this morning was to find the Pink/Black wire and the Black wire where they enter the door. I metered both and had 12 volts into the door.
Pulled the door panel off and then pulled out the speaker and unplugged it. Tested speaker and its shot. So all I need to find is a 1987 Corvette Door Speaker for the Bose/Delco system. I will post over on the parts for sale forum later. Actually, both speaker problems was easy to find/fix. One more thing off the Vette Winter 'to do list'.
Well, I know the last response was over a year ago but I'm praying someone sees this.... Sort of akin to an SOS on a deserted island....
I have a pristine '86 but the speakers stopped working about a year ago. All research pointed to the relay as described above and all the information worked out well. I located and replaced the relay with a new one from a catalog store and hooked most everything back up. I turned on the ignition and turned on the radio and blew the radio fuse instantly. I found another 10A fuse and tried again with the same result. So, I took out the new relay and put everything back together after killing the better part of a day.....
Anybody know why I would blow the radio fuse with a new relay yet everything works (radio, clock, antenna) except the speakers with the old relay?

If a fuse blows that fast you've got a short to ground. Maybe only connect one speaker/amp at a time to narrow it down. In your testing, use a SMALLER fuse (a melted spot on the fuse panel would be another chore to fix).
