ok I got the rear shocks off my car in the matter of minutes. Now the front ones I have yet to figure out. I have the fx3 shocks. So all I see is 2 bolts holding them on. Excpet that the bolts have a nut that is underneath inside a housing(guess that would best expalin it) Every time I turn the bolt the nut turns so I am getting nowhere. Someone please point me in the right direction.
I believe what you are saying is when you turn the top nut, the whole shock spins? If so, then depending on the shock, on top of the threads there is either a place for a hex wrench or flats to which you can clamp vice-grips to keep it from spinning. You can remove the center fender liner (5 bolts) for easier access to the top of the shock.
I just finished my shocks, and wow -- I didn't realize how bad they were.
There are nuts on the underside of the control arm. You need to hold the nuts in place while loosening the two bolts. Metric deep socket works great.
On the top, you need to hold the shock piston in place (I use a 1/4" crescent wrench on the flats at the very top of the shock...but I don't have FX3/F45) while loosening the nuts. Don't rotate the shock piston, it's supposed to do bad things for the shock.
now that I actually took a minute to look at it. I got the bottom bolts easily. Now I need to figure out the top. I have the fx3 so on top is the actuator and I cant get that damn thing to budge. Is there a bolt underneath the actuator that holds the shock in from the top?
ok figured out where my problem is. I cant get the damn actuator off. Is there some secret to doing this? I am trying my damndest and to no avail, that thing will not budge.
