Went to the gas station to fill up yesterday and got back in the car and it wouldn't start. Crank and turnover but no start. New battery, plugs, and starter seems fine. Went home and got some starter fluid and sprayed some and she started right up and ran fine. Went home and shut down then went for a restart... crank, crank, crank... no start. Replaced the Fuel Pump Relay recently so it's OK. Let the baby sit for a while and she'll fire up right away. Turn it off, then back on... no can start. Will have to carry around a can of starter fluid until this issue gets figured out? Any ideas? Thanks in advance and hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving holiday weekend!
Do you have spark during the no-start? Connect a timing light to any spark plug wire and see if the light is flashing while cranking.
Is the starter fluid really making it start and keep running and isn't a coincidence that the car had time to sit? If you really had a no-fuel issue the car should have died after a second or so and not kept running after an initial shot of starter fluid at least from my experience.
All 8 injectors should ohm right about 16 ohms.
Leaking fuel injectors can cause starting issues when hot. To test floor the gas pedal before attempting to crank and hold the throttle open for a while. This vents any fuel vapors from the engine in the event the injectors are leaking. Release and then crank the car again. If this action makes the car start up easier the injectors are leaking.
The starter fluid helps with initial ignition and then the car runs like normal. Warmed it up to closed loop idling in the driveway; then turned it off and immediately tried to restart. No dice. Tried the open throttle option with no effect. Shot it with a spray of fluid and it fired right up. Still has the original Multec injectors and am planning on getting some Bosch IIIs, but don't think that would solve this problem . . . ?
