Hey guys, so when I got my 84 corvette, I didn't have the crossfire injection cleaner on top, instead it had dual round air filters. Also the smog pump and system was unhooked. As well as the EGR system, the solenoid is completely gone. On the exhaust manifold there is a pipe sticking up on both sides. What are these pipes and where did they connect. Also, what all is required to restore the AIR system and is it even necessary? I know the EGR helps with gas mileage, does the AIR system help as well? Thanks
Those pipes provide warm air to the air cleaner. Helps with drivability when the motor is cold. The air system (pump) injects air into the exhaust manifolds when the motor is cold to help with emissions. That is not really needed except for emissions because it doesn't do anything after the motor is warmed up. The egr dilutes the intake charge with exhuast gasses and can help decrease detonation.
Thanks! So in theory, the pipes from the manifold are best disconnected in warmer areas bc of the hot air vs performance? And any idea if a chevy truck tbi egr solenoid would work on my car?
