Early C4 headlight

Can I remove the motor or do I have to remove the whole assembly to replace the gear ? I looked at the sticky above but it mostly deals with the later systems. Also, most of the pics are gone. 150000 miles and never had any problems so I guess I'm due. Passenger light will not open. If I unplug it, turn the little ****, like I want manually open it a turn, then plug it back in, it opens. I guess there is a bad spot on the gear.

Tell me what I need to know, please.

Never been apart. I guess I'll order the gear before I remove it. Cant be driving around, with one eye. Last night, I just turned them on and unplugged the motors so they both stay up.

Thanks for the tips.

Looking at parts, I find a large gear, a small gear or both in a set. Should I just get the set ?

I bought the bronze Gear set for my 86 and never had problems with it again.

OK, I'll go for the set. Corvette Central has a great price, and I have a new credit card to break in.

Failure. Magnet was loose and in 2 pieces. JB Welded it in place and the light opened but wont close.

Fixed. Got a motor from Oldalaskaman, used parts from his and parts from mine. Works like new. Thanks to Oldalaskaman, I saved a bunch of $$$ over buying new.
