After replacing thermostat-- engine overheated to 275 degrees after less than five mile run and started spitting out antifreeze???
Any suggestions? thanks
Your thermostat is faulty and stuck in the closed position. I always check them by boiling them in a pot of water to make sure they open before installing it in the car.
I don't see how you can be low on antifreeze if it is spilling out. What happened when the thermostat didn't open is the antifreeze expanded from the heat and spilled out of your overflow tank. I had a Monte Carlo do this very thing when the thermostat went bad.
This happened with mine a few months ago. The heater core or radiator leaked slighlty until the level was low enough to create an air bubble which superheated the remaining coolant which sent some out of the overflow. I am replacing my heater core at the moment. My coolant level sensor is apparently faulty so i never knew the level was getting low. Replace the thermostat as it is cheap. Felpro makes a nice reuseable gasket with an o-ring. Check out your coolant level sensor and properly refill.
