Default Thoughts on New 383 Combination

Hello all,

I haven't posted here much but that might change now that I am finally getting my car back together. This motor is for a Firehawk and not a Vette but I figured there might be some interest. Posted below is the new combo thats just been built. The motor is finished and in the car. The last steps are having the NOS added and for it to be tuned. Just wanted to get a feel for what you all think.

93 2 bolt LT1 block converted to 4 bolt billet steel caps
Callies Compstar 3.750 crank
Oliver 6 inch rods
JE Pistons.....I think compression is 10.5
Fully ported 074 heads, stock valves
CC502 cam
CC 1.6 Magnum roller tip rockers
LT1 intake thats been ported
30lb injectors
Racetronix Walboro 255 kit and wiring harness
MSD Optispark
Kooks longtube headers 1 3/4"
Kooks catted 'Y' pipe
Mufflex 3.5" exhaust
700r4 trans built by Del Trans
PTC Converter, 3000 stall (approx)
3.73 gears
150 Nitrous shot

This is a street car that needs to get through a sniffer test at idle and 2500 rpm. It will see occasional track use. The better it runs the more it will see the track. I'd really like to see an 11 second slip on motor and 10's on juice. I have a few ideas on things I might change down the road, but this is what I have for now.

Looks good. I would have gone slightly bigger on the cam for a 383 but it should work. I know guys have gotten much bigger cams to pass sniffers in california so you could have gone bigger as long as the tune was spot on. I would think it would need abit more cam to touch 11's in a fbody

Thanks for the response.......depending on how the car does with emissions, I might upgrade the cam and have it retuned.

By the username I assume you have/had an IROC. Any pics? I have a 1988 350 car and am over at TGO as Rumblin70SS.

IT will make a lot of torque everywhere. It would be just as happy with less converter and gear.
Good luck getting it to hook on a street tire.

With some afr heads and a little more cam it would be a monster.

Drive the sh** out of it and enjoy!

Not sure......the heads are standard issue LT1 so I think they should be in the neighborhood of 58-60 CC's.

Thanks! We'll see how it performs shortly once I get it back. I hope to have rwhp numbers in the next month or so with and without NOS.

Keep us posted. Should be interesting to see the change with nitrous. Will you be tuning the nitrous on the dyno? My best 383 with 150 shot ended up running 34 deg total timing on motor and 32 on the spray with AFR 195 heads with targeted 11.8-12.0 to 1 air fuel. Had to run 75 fuel jets with the 150 nitrous jets to lean it out as the kit was way rich at 10 to 1 air fuel. Picked up 3-4 mph in the 1/4 just by leaning it out

The only criticism that comes to mind is the fueling system when on the hose. A 30# inj. and that pump is fine for NA, but w/a 150 hit might become a bit edgy.

If used with 43-46 psi. fp, thats an awfully large fuel jet for a 150 hit.

Wow that IROC is killer! I wish mine ran 9s! Awesome job!

The plan is to run the NOS on the dyno. The builder that put together the motor will be adding the nitrous and do the tuning. I could do it, but I'd rather have him do the whole nine yards in case there is an issue.

I imagine they run the kit way rich so there isn't any issues with going lean and toasting something. The guy doing mine does NOS/boosted applications, so it seems like he knows his stuff.

Thats what the builder thought we should go with, so I'm assuming its ok. If we need to upgrade, we will....

Looks like it should pull tree stumps! Watch out for the MSD optispark though. Picks of the Firehawk?

Thanks! Here's a few pics......its a 1993 and I have owned it since 1996. Only had 42k on it when the motor let go.

Ok guys the car was finally dynoed.......it put out 340 RWHP and 330 RWTQ......my calculation with 20% drivetrain loss says thats about 425 HP and 415 ft lbs of torque.

We decided against the NOS at this point because the build is just taking too long and I'd like to get the car back.

I'm thinking the car will be somewhere in the mid 12's, but be able to get past emissions pretty easily.

Any comments are appreciated!

Thanks!

Tony

Hi Tony being a 383 i would expect bigger numbers

Might be the 3000 stall showing less power at the dyno ?
Would love to see the 1/4 numbers !
