Default Digital dash 85-89

On my '84, somebody in the past has installed a dash from an 85-89 car in the past. It appears it was from a standard car, because I see a upshift for best economy light, and the OD light constantly flashes. My '85 Auto dash didn't have these lights at all.

That doesn't bother me, what does is that I can't read the speedo. It is extremely bright compared to the rest of the dash. I can't tell if it has to do with the lcd pane or not, but sunglasses doesn't make a difference. What I find odd, is that the left turn signal indicator has a hint of light shining through it, which makes me think maybe somebody put the wrong bulb in that section of the cluster? Enlighten me please!

yeah, someone put a brighter and also hotter lamp in there.

You really should go to Batee.com and just learn that cluster inside and out...they actually are very simplistic once you dig into them. Pulling them out is actually the hardest part of whole task.

Anyway, lamps that are too hot will also have the Crystals moving to the side on hot days....so the top three bars of the speedo will be green on hot Texas days.

Temporarily put a spit ball to block most of the light going into the square light sensor, that will dim the dash down a bit. Then you can attack the cluster at your leisure. Just as a learning process, cover the square sensor with your finger during the day and watch the dash dim and brighten as you cover/un-cover the photocell

The illuminated turn signal indicates a short in the PCB somewhere, Batee.com will tell you how to re-flow the solder joints using a soldering iron and close those electronic shorts.....very simple process. Then make sure you search out the correct lamps and buy all four of them.

First, an 84 cluster is unique to that year and other clusters will not work correctly in an 84. Get rid of what you have and get a working 84.

Thanks J! The illuminated signal indicator is not fully illuminated and functions properly, it just looks like light carrying over from the speedo side. I've torn into one before, looks like I gotta go at another!
