I need to replace the pads on my 95 Corvette should I replace them with Factory or is there an aftermarket set that would be better???? thanks!! :chevy
OEM pads are pretty good... lots of people like the EBC Greens pads, low dust and low noise at a decent price. Performance Friction are good also, but lots of complaints about brake noise/dust. I personally am going with Napa Ceramix pads on my 95... no dust at all, but they are pricey.
I have the NAPA Ceramix on my 95, the dust from them is very fine, so it isn't noticeable for a few weeks. After a few months the dust is more noticeable.
I'm going to try the Greenstuff for the '93.
I bought a set of Hawks from Tirerack.com. No dust to speak of and this is the first time in the 3 years that I've owned this 88 Coupe that it finally stops!
I have the street version of the Hawk pads. The hotter they get the faster they stop. I'm going to upgrade to slotted rotors and these should help stop even faster.
As a test I was doing 70 and stood on the peddle. My wife's feet and legs flew forward. We were both surprized. I'm sold :yesnod:
I have the Hawk's on right now too. I like 'em alot! Stops the car real nice. You can "feel" that they are soft on the rotors. In my case, they DO dust. These are pricey too.
BTW: same pads/part # for 13" or 12" rotors. Hard to believe but true.
Another vote for NAPA Ceramix. With daily street driving, virtually no dust, stop on a dime, and no noticable rotor wear. (Yet) Well worth the extra money.

About 300 miles ago, I purchased Hawks, front and rear and I am very pleased with them. They throw off very little dust and perform very well.
I found that the Tire Rack had the best price on Hawks, at that time.
buy them from autozone, and buy and that have a lifetime warranty (which are most) and then you will never have to buy brake pads again, just bring in the worn out ones and they will give you new ones.
just bought Hawk the other day, there is a GP going on right now for them.
On another note, is there a good how-to on putting on new brake pads? Never done it before and from what Ive read is seems pretty confusing for someone w/ no prior work on brakes.

no way, its a piece of cake.....get yourself a $10 chiltons manual and it will walk you through the process step by step. YOu can get them at most any autoparts store.
I've had the Hawk HPS pads on for a year now. Work great for everyday driving and even a couple track days. The track days at PIR (9 turns 1.9 miles) generated a LOT of dust, but for street use, very little.
So far, the wear on the rotors are not bad at all. No squeals when cold and after only one or two brake applications, they bring the car right down.
You should also do a complete fluid flush when you swap the pads. I use the Ford HP fluid; has a higher boiling point than OEM stuff and it not too bad a price. A full quart is needed for a flush of the entire system.
