Thanks for the heads up onedef92. Water pump practically new. I put it in 3000 miles ago when I put the engine in. I learned a lot the hard way on this transplant. Since the motor only had 51K miles on it, I didn't change out too many things but I wish I had. I only changed the spark plugs and wires, Opti, and water pump. I should have changed all the seals. I narrowed my oil leak down to where timing cover meets oil pan and that gasket is a one piece gasket which means I have to drop the oil pan and its not easy in my car. Live and learn; I know for the next time.
on my 96, vented opti, the serpentine belt had cut the vacumn hose running to the opti, and heat and oil soak had rotted through the hose running from the opti (hidden, as yours was, by the waterpump). Instead of getting a new factory vacunm harness, I used regular vacumn hose which besides cheaper, allowed running the hose in a more protected route.
I didn't use the factory hose for the vented tube and I wrapped the new hose in wire loom to protect it from oil soak or any other fluid spills or leaks.
Well, she running great again. As previously mentioned, The vented tube to the opti was crushed between water pump and created a hole that essentially had the Opti sucking water in to it during the rain. New Opt installed with all new seals (oil pan included) and she is running great. The oil pan seal was not as bad to change as I thought. I pulled the rack and pinion out and it gave me enough access to to change the seal. Thanks again eevryone for all the advice. I learned a lot! My car is now ready for the C3 cruise. see link below.
