Default Code 44 = Lean Exhaust Condition/Please Help Diagnose

Ok what kinds of things will cause this. A little background.

The car sat for about 2 years.

It was hard to get running and after about 20 minutes of it turning over (had to recharge the battery overnite twice) and almost cranking I finally pulled the plugs and they were all wet with gas.

Bought new plugs installed them and after 3 tries it crank up. Been running pretty good since. Very good power no hesitation or anything weird except......

after it gets to operating temp (10 mins or more running and driving) if I come to a stop like a red light or stop sign it will idle normal then after about 10-15 secs it will change idle as if it comes under load then abruptly shut off. I put it in park and it cranks right back up and I keep going like nothing happened.

It has done this twice after about 10-15 miles of driving total. So today after a ride in which it didnt happen I come to a stop in my driveway and just leave it in drive and wait and after about 10-15 secs it does its thing but it didnt cut off but imediatly when the rpm gets lower (again acting like its all of a sudden under load) then the service engine light comes on.

I check and its Code 44.

Now I did notice when putting in the plugs that 2 of the fuel injector connectors have been spliced into the injector harness. I called the previous owner and he said they were from a 4th Gen Camaro.

Ill post some pics tomorrow.

Change your fuel filter. Make it happen in the driveway. Right after it happens ck your fuel pressure ohm your injectors and ck you IAC for proper operation.

Its a 1985.

Ill confirm which sensors were changed from the previous owner.

I do know he changed the fuel pump and fuel filter the coolant temp sensor and the o2 sensor.

What does the mark on the harmonic balancer look like. After getting it running I wanted to check the timing on it but only found a little metal nipple that I think is the marking with which to check timing. I also know on these Tpi cars you have to disconnect a weather pack connector I want to confirm where thats located as well.

I have never had an 85 but I don't think it's a nipple should be a groove in the balancer. I use a q-tip spray a little white spay paint on it and dab it in the groove so its easier to see. The O2 sensor although new could have been fuel fouled along with the plugs. If I were you I would change it. It only cost 20 bucks.
