I need an extra key made, I called a mobil locksmith, he wanted 85.00 I told him I didn't need it that bad...any ideas as to where I could go?
So you need a copy of a key made? Is it just a door key or the ignition? A door key you could probably just go to you local hardware store. The ignition key you could try a Chevy dealer. When I had my 1994 Trans Am, I had a Ignition key copied at a local dealer. They only charged me around $15 and I believe it was a VATTS key.
Bring the Title or Registration to your car with you. I believe in for a 1992 they can cut the key using info from the Vin#. They will just want proof you own the car before they will cut a key for you .

If you called a mobil locksmith they were probley adding $50.00 for the service call and drive time. If you just need the copy any dealer can do it. I bet a few hardware stores can stiil cut it. should be less then $20.00
If it has vats you can measure the resistance of the chip and get the key chip code. I ordered a blank key for my 94 Trans Am from ebay and just told them the type of resistor that was in it. They sent me a blank with that chip in it and I took it to a hardware store and had the key cut.
You would be suprised how many places CAN deal with duplicating the keys with the resistors.
I measured mine, purchased blanks from ebay and then carried them to my local ACE hardware to have cut....only to find out they had all the different blanks there. They even checked the resistors to make sure I had gotten the correct blanks.

I measured my resistor with my ohms meter and got blanks for $2 each and went to home depot and the guy wouldnt cut them... So I walked out and went to NAPA and they said they really didnt want to cut them and I told them that they wouldnt be responsible if they broke the blanks and they did both of them for under $10...
