Default Pulling LT1 from a 93 auto

Can anyone tell me how to get to the tranny bolt on top? It looks like it would be easier from the top by moving the big wire harness but that looks to be a job in itself. The pics I see from other threads look like the wires are still there.

Based on the multiple threads, thats the only way. Watch out for the firewall and gas pump shut off sensor.

Also, do you have the c beam out? It helps alot to tilt the transmission down to access the the bolt.

As was mentioned, drop the C-Beam let the rear of the trans drop a little bit... Use a 14mm swivel socket and a long extension it works great! watch you don't let the rear of the engine drop back too far or you will start crushing stuff...

Remove c beam and tilt tranny, got it. What about the front of the engine? Is it better to pull the balancer? I'm sure I can deal with the water pump and power steering.

No nothing needs to be done to the power steering or balancer, just let the engine set on its motor mounts.

Just to verify what you are doing here, I take it by your post title you are pulling the motor.
Let me say, I have never pulled the entire motor myself, but have the heads, and transmission, etc.
But, it is my understanding, it is easier to pull the transmission first, then you can pull the motor all as one assembly, including accessories, headers etc, as one unit. I will try to find a link to this and add it to this post.

Look at this post, espically the pictures by 96GS#007 http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-t...-and-pics.html

We just replaced the rear main seal (and stage four disc that was coated with oil) Friday and that's how to do it. Brace the back half of the motor on the oil pan (with a 2X4 on a jack to spread the weight) and another jack under the transmission and slowly lower both jacks until you can get to the bolt. We typically use a "wobbly" extension which will hold a little more pressure than a universal joint. Either will work.

From pulling it into the garage to backing out of the garage less than six hours. We didn't think that was too bad. Add in that we had to replace one of the driveshaft u-joints which cost us some time, and cleaning the oil out of the bellhousing, and off the flywhel and pressure plate, and I think we did OK on time. We've obviously pulled the trans and / or motor too many times.

Thanks for the help guys the reason for pulling the engine was to replace it. It all started out as a H/C mod when I bought a set of Ron's (cuisinartvette) ported heads. Then with his help I ended up getting a 383 bottom end from a Brad at QMP Racing.

Geez, it took me 6 hours just to get them top 2 bolts out. I will say that you need to use a 1/2" drive set up to get them out. The 3/8" was easier to get in place but just didn't have the torque needed to break them loose.

Sorry i must have misread the post, I thought you were just pulling the transmission.

In any event you do not need to pull the balancer. I would just pull the accessory bracket and set it off to the side.

MO

Thanks Mo, the engine was out last night. I appreciate everyone's help. Now, I may never get the other one back in right but maybe that's another thread.
