What type of shift light do you have?

A Glow shift, inexpensive but I thought it would do the job. Pretty simple install, tach wire, key on power and ground. Could a bad ground caues this?

Is the motor at 3K when the light goes on? Are you taking your tach signal off the brown tach wire leaving the disributor?

Yes at 3k on my tach the light goes on, my signal is the white tach wire at the firewall inside the black cover.

Is that the one that goes to the tach filter?

2 thoughts; take the signal from the other side of the tach filter. Hook up a conventional tach to this wire and see if the rpm's are correct. If you're getting a correct signal, then you shift lite is kaput.
