Any journey begins with a first step. Think about how much that would have cost at a stealership or a corner garage. While you were under the Vette did you find the fuel filter? Look around for the fuel and brake lines? There is more stuff under a Vette than there is under the clam shell. I have always thought the engine is on top and the trans/diff is on the bottom. Suspension is everywhere. Good job
that may means that they can't read 8th grade level english.

Its the way to go, keep buying tools. It wont be a bad idea to change your plugs, wires, ATF and flush the coolant next.
Before you start asking senseless questions, your 93 came with green coolant but, to be safe look and check the coolant color before you flush and refill.

If you are putting limited mileage on the car, I'd still change it every six months.
If you are using mobil extended protection then 1 year. (per mobil)

I must have the right size drain pan then.
I don't get oil anywhere but in the pan - and all over my hands when I change it on the 92 or the wife's 04
Just got a new to me F150 I need to change all the fluids on next.
For your Corvette DO NOT forget to fully flush the brake system. I waited almost 3 years to change it in the 04 and it looked like well used motor oil - yecch
Since the 92 sees lots of road course time it gets changed every few months.

Why?If it is periodically run until the oil is at operating temp there is no need to frequently change oil unless it is dirty IMO.
I put exactly 1,000 miles on my car last year.Still has the same oil in it and it looks clean.
If you are going to big bucks for quality motor oil it makes no sense to change it that frequently just because it sits.
If it went racing every weekend I would change it every 1,000 miles or sooner.
Heck run 5w30 wal mart oil and I bet it is still clean after 1,000 miles.
Congratulations! It all starts with little steps. Willie (383vett) was giving you a atta-boy. You start with oil.....next move on to changing out the stock rockers for 1.6 RR and a little more HP. The more you learn about your car, the less likely you are going to have some shop tell you that you have to drop your gas tank to change the fuel pump and hand them $600 for the job!!
A well informed owner will often know more about their car than most mechanics. Read what you can, go a little farther each time you work on your car. Recruit a knowledgeable friend to help and learn from.
In a couple of years....you may just follow Willie's advice.

Agree, my owners manual for the 96 LT4 gives a time limit of 1 year oil change if it is not driven enough to use the mileage change. Since it was new, only once a year and it is hard to see the level on the dipstick then because the oil is so clean. Do you think LT4's engine oil stays to clean because the LT4 does not have a EGR valve?
congratulations. even if your talents, or inclinations, never take you past changing filters and fluids, you'll save hundreds, maybe thousands, of dollars over the life of your car. and you won't have to subject your vette to the shoddy, or worse, work done by some of these so called "professionals".
