It appears my release **** for the targa top (when its stored in the back) is broken.
The plastic broke off right at the level of the plastic surround trim.
anyone repair this before? do I have to get an entire hatch release?
The plastic release assembly may still be available from GM. IIRC there were 6 left nationally when I purchased one a year ago. The assembly comes with the handle. Cost was around 20bux.
Well, seems I need one of these. I thought it was just the little handle that was broken, but it's the bit that the handle clips onto that's snapped off.
Has anyone done this replacement? Any pointers on what I need to take apart to get at it would be most welcome.
I just ordered one on eBay. Should be here Friday. I'm guessing the rear cover needs to be removed then 2 bolts and it comes out. Hopefully it's that simple!

I hope so too. Don't want to have to mess with the weatherstripping back there. Ordered a used one this morning from a corvette salvage guy.
It was a pretty simple job...took about 10 minutes.
Remove the obvious screws around the deck-like plastic trim that surrounds the back of the hatch, wiggle it out and set it aside, remove the nuts securing the latch for the targa top, put the new one on, wiggle the trim piece back in place, replace the screws and away you go.
One thing - I learned after I had it apart that you don't need to remove the four or five soft rubber plugs that you'll see on the trim piece. Getting them back in was a bit of a pain.
