Default electrical experts help

I was driving to work last week when my check engine light came on, so I looked at my dash and noticed the coolant temp in the digital dash was at 142 which is very odd because my car always run warm but my analog gauge was reading high, drove about a half mile and my check gauges light came on just as I was pulling into work.Car did overheat which I thought was either my fans quit working or my therostat was stuck, but it turned out to be my electric water pump blew its 15 amp fuse.I called csr and they said the motor could be replaced for about half the price for a new one, came home and decide to check the ohms on the motor, so 12 volts divided by 5.8 amps = 2ohms,checked the motor and it shows 1.2 ohms so my question of the day is ,is this motor bad or not? I was expecting a lot higher ohms, and if the motor isn't bad what caused this fuse to blow.Pump has been in my car for 5 or 6 years with no issues.any ideas. thanks

p.s. car is 1994 lt1

Fuses blow for more than just current higher than their rating. Motors draw roughly twice their running current momentarily while they come up to speed from stopped and this pulse of current fatigues the fuse which weakens it and eventually they blow. I would at least install a new fuse and see if the motor runs. Also, a motor is not a fixed resistor and measuring its resistance will not tell you the running current using ohm's law. If your motor blows the new fuse quickly, then you definitely need a new motor.
