Has anyone tried these headers for their c4? Seems like a good deal but I'm a little leary when it seemed like most quality headers were gonna run me around 5 to $600. Would this be a good upgrade to a stock 1990 motor? I'm getting ready to redo my exhaust system. Thanks everyone.

Those Hedman headers are decent, but the tube wall thickness at 18 gauge is thin compared to the Elites. The flanges are thinner too. They are simply painted and it won't take long for the paint to burn off.
The Hedman ceramic coated headers are a much better deal, but they do approach $400. Hedman is a popular brand among C4 owners here and they do work in conjunction with a good free-flowing exhaust. The exhaust will be key; if you can go with true duals in 2 1/2" and good mufflers, that can be a 15-20 HP gain. Add an X-pipe in the location where the main cat would be; that will cut down on interior exhaust resonance.
Cool thanks guys I think I will give them a shot. So I'm guessing I can order the x pipe since I don't need emissions then from there just get the mufflers and I would be set?
I have them, and so do many others. As long as they wonk it don't matter to me what they look like, plus I don't think I 'll have the car long enough to ever have to worry about replacing them.
If or when I get a 427+ motor I'll worry about putting on some pretty parts.
Yes, coated might be a little better, but how much? Not enough for me to pay that much more on this little motor.

That should be a good start. One thing about the true duals and removing the cats; many muffler shops won't remove a working catalytic converter from a car. It's a violation of a federal law and can result in a 5-figure fine to the shop if they get caught. State emissions testing has nothing to do with this.
Note that the X-pipe is for a true-dual system only, if you are keeping the single pipe after the main cat, you just need the Y-pipe section from the front pipe.
What you might do is to remove the old exhaust yourself and install the headers. Remove the license plates and get a trailer to haul the car to a shop and tell them the car is for "off-road use" only. Tell them you're building a race car or something like that. Once you get the car back home, re-install the plates.
This pic shows headers with a Y-pipe connected to the stock single pipe at the main cat. This is on a 4+3 car but an auto trans car would look similar.
I run these, they were $159 back when I bought them, and have had no problems. I have a dual exhaust I got from Mid America. I had to weld in an O2 bung and fab a alt brace, but otherwise it was an easy install.
I have angle plug heads and have heard some people with straight plugs have a clearence issue.

this is my 91 with the Headman Elites and magnaflow cat back. They are similar to the ones you are looking at but have the 3/8 flange and are coated.

I you have the tools, you can make your own. I am running the Hedman Elite's as well PN 68448.
The cheap headers do work for just reducing back pressure. Now if you look at the headers you will see some tubes are long and some are short. That is the one of reasons they do not cost as much as some of the others.
A true equal length header will cost far more and be the biggest PIA to install on the car. Some of the cheapest headers leave hp and tq on the table but actually install easy. Ask me how I know that little tid bit of info.
