I hate to do this, but I've been searching the threads and I cannot find a picture by picture or detailed instructions on how to get to the heater core. My FSM doesn't even tell me enough and after getting most of the passenger side pieces out, it looks like I may have to take out the radio, which means the center console has to be taken apart just to get to the radio harness that I'm supposed to take out. I can see the heater core housing (I think) but I'm kinda stuck. Is there a link anywhere that can show me how to do this? I appreciate the help.
BTW, I've been taking pictures myself.
About 3 years ago I had to change my AC evaporator core due to a freon leak. I could sware the heater core is in the same location and all this was accessible from the passenger side engine compartment
I'll have to check my service manual when I get a chance.

No way will the heater come out of the firewall,
When i did my heater core on my 95 I took apart the entire passenger footwell. Remove the shifter bezel and radio bezel, remove the vents, remove the dashpad hardware and dashpad, unplug the BCM and anything else in your way under the passenger foot well, you will then have a clear shot at the heater core. You will need to finesse an extension and socket into some tight spaces to get all the bolts out of the heater case, but its not impossible. the dashboard skeleton does not hvae to be removed. on the outside of the car move the expansion tank and disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core. This is a very vague description of the process, keep in mind this job very time consuming, but in no way hard.

I just got done with this, it is time consuming but not very hard.
Do you have a GM Service Manual? It explains how to do this pretty well, if not may be you borrow one from a friend. Good luck!
Yes, I have a FSM, but it doesn't tell you enough, and some of the steps seem out of order. I already have the new heater core in, but man! I've got some sore muscles!
