Second gear in my 90 vette blew out on me and it looks like its time for a rebuild. Does anyone know of a good rebuild kits that would work great for a vette? Also when i rebuild the transmission is there anything else i should do? like replace torque converter or flywheel etc? Any help would be great!

 

give B&M a call . They have full trans rebuild kits etc. that will work great and torque converters as well if you decide to do it all at once

 

I'd find a local transmission supply shop - one that sells parts to the local rebuilders and use them - B&M is just a "kit" made up of a couple different supplier's parts that you can usually pick up cheaper individually from a trans parts shop.. (at least around here you can)

You'll want to replace the converter - or get it cut open, cleaned, and re-welded - there is likely trash in it and you risk killing your new tranny in short order if it's not cleaned out.

For parts - here's a quick list of what I like to use in a basic rebuild:
- TransTec gasket / seal kit
- Bushing / bearing kit
- stock style Borg-Warner clutches (or for higher HP's alto RED's and kolene steels and an Alto "a-pack" or Raybestos "Z-pack")
- Carbon fiber or kevlar band
- .500" TV boost valve
- .283" low/reverse boost valve
- 1-2 'enhanced performance' accumulator spring
- elevated pressure regulator spring
- new sun shell (Sonnax "smart shell" or "the beast" or similar)
- and if you're going to be running 4th hard then a 4th gear 'super servo'

That will shift firmer and quicker than stock but not be annoying - if you go with a transgo shift kit then some of the parts come in the kit and you don't need to purchase them separately. Most of the hard parts are Sonnax brand if you want to look them up.

That should get you a good reliable tranny that will handle a lot of abuse...
