I've got a 96 CE with the passive key entry (PKE) feature. While the system works flawlessly as far as opening, disarming / locking arming the anti-theft system, it has a maddening glitch.
It occasionally causes the door locks to flutter. They don't lock and unlock - they will partially actuate - often at a frequency of multiple times per second. I've put in a new battery, reset the system and no change.
It may go a week with no occurance, then go goofy every day for the next week. Any help would be appreciated.
Gee - that's pretty weird. What are the conditions? Does it only happen, say, when you're in the car? when you bump the key fob (turning it on as it goes to sleep after a short amount of non-movement)? Perhaps you could get another key fob and program it. You could at least determine if the bug is in the car unit or on the key ring...
I know what you mean, mine does it every once in a great while. I always figured it was the proximity sensor just getting a little glitch. I've only had it happen when the door is open and I'm walking around near the car, in and out of range of the fob. When I turn off the proximity thing or walk away and arm it, it seems to go back to normal.
I had the exact same problem on my 96. It was the pin switch in the door. It is adjustable and overtime it got very slightly out of adjustment and caused the locks to flutter.
Jim:
It does it when I'm in hte car and especially when you're driving. If I remove the fob batttery it stops. As a result it might be the fob. Not having asecond (it's long gone) I can't try another and I hate to invest in a new one only to find it's on the car, versus fob end.
Wow.. super info.. I never would've guessed the door pin. My '96 has had rare intemittent lock fluttering but only a couple times and only for a few minutes. I'll be checking the door pins for sure. Thanks again.
Chris:
I had a senior moment...I just realized (I think) that by "door pins" they are talking about the door light switch ... the one that's depresssed when you close the door! I admit that I've never heard it referred to by that moniker before, but when I depressed mine at lunch (with the door open and the key in the ignition in the on position), the doors locked!
I'm going home tonight and see how one adjusts those babies!!! Cire96
Also if your in your car with the ignition on make sure you push the key all the way in. even though the key doesen't come out of the ignition, if it's not all the way in the car will think your keys are out of the ignition.
CD:
I looked at the door pin switches. I can't see how onw would adjust theem. What's the trick? Also, I held (with a helper) both down all the way and the locks still fluttered. What do you think?
