Got a '94 LT-1 6spd. A few weeks ago it coded a H63. Bought an O2 sensor today. Here's the problem. The car has 3 O2 sensors. One on the drivers side exhaust, then two on the passenger side, one before the cat, one after. Is there any way to tell which one is the bad one? I really don't want to buy 3 $40 sensors if only 1 is bad, and I don't want to have to keep trying different combinations of 3 until the code goes away. Thanks for any help.
Ok,...just did some searching/reading. The way I understand it so far is the sensor on the drivers side and the one behind the cat on the passenger side are just there to basically tell the computer that the cats are working,...that the sensor that carries most of the workload and is much more common to go out is the one on the passenger side before the cat right?
BTW,...the one on the passenger side before the cat,...how the hell do you get it out? I don't have room to get a combination wrench in there and you can't use a socket on it unless you cut the connector/wires.
I have a '94 ... and yes, the one behind the cat on the passenger side does nothing at all. You can unplug it and it doesn't affect anything (at least that my DataMaster logs showed). Don't bother replacing it. Just leave the one you have now in it's place to keep from having an exhaust leak :jester
DO change both of the others. It will save you enough gas to pay for them in the long run and your car will run better. Use GM ones if you can (order from Jeff Kopp - $26 each i think), or you can use Bosch if you have to (though I don't like them as much)
