I played around with the NOS yesterday and have a few question. First my goal is to get a better launch at the starting line and increase the pull at the top end. Since this is a C-3 and I have a 350 trann and my first gear is not as low, I was hoping to increase my 60 ft times below 2.0. Yesterday, I did a few test runs with the 50 shot pills. The first one at a dead stop and just punching it. I blew the tires, but car almost grabbed. The second run was with my 200+ neighbor and from a 20 mile per hour start. The result was a good pull, but not what I expected.
Should I just erase the idea of launching with nitrous and step up to the 100 shot pills? Or try a 75 shot and ease off the line?
Get a Progressive Nitrous Controller, you can find them on ebay for about $200, then step up to 100 shot and make it come in at 25% at the start and the have the rest come in after 1 1/2 sec later.
With the controler you can tell it to bring in as much as you want at the start and have it come in after X many sec.
Or you can get a window switch then you can just tell it to come in at a RPM that you give it up like come in at 3000RPM
Well, I'm gonna go against Jay's suggestion here.... I'm not a very big fan of progressive controllers, they're kind of like dry systems in my opinion and are prone to failure. I do however agree with his suggestion of the window switch. Launching a street-tired car on the button is tough. It may only be a 50 or 75 hp shot, but it increases torque by about 150!! With slicks you won't have as much of a problem but may run into some driveline issues. With street radials I would suggest staying off the bottle until the car is launched and then spraying it on the big end once you're hooked. Since you're running a TPI based motor (and I don't know how highly modified it is) I would suggest running 3500 on and 5200 off on the window switch... You can do like a lot of us do and leave it unarmed until the car is hooked up and then flip the switch...

Re: Nitrous HP? Tuning (jburnett)
Hitting the button at anything less than 2500 rpm is VERY hard on engine. Want to lower your 60ft ? Get slick's and stay off the button. And practice . Bear in mind these Vette's are not good launcher's (weight transfer). And flying drivetrain part's.Window switch's ...... keep it simple. Don't use them. It's only that much more that can and will go wrong .

Window switches are awesome. Mine is set at 3500 on/6400 off. Keeps me from hitting it too early and blowing the motor, and keeps it out of the rev limiter which can also be deadly. Almost all Nitrous manufacturers do not recommend you hitting the juice under 3000 rpm.
I disagree with Frank completely on the use of a window switch!!! I think you're absolutely crazy if you run an EFI motor on juice without one. Have you ever seen what happens to a motor if you hit the rev limiter or miss a shift while nitrous is activated??? I have...It ain't pretty... I'm not a progressive controller fan but I wouldn't install a system without a window switch!!

PS- Window switches are pretty 'positive' pieces of equipment...If something fails it simply doesn't activate the juice; so what's the worse that could happen...You lose a race...
Manual tranny cars should alway run a window switch with the nitrous. The only exception to this is the NOS ZR-1 kit which includes a custom relay that triggers off of the secondary port activation. It is essentially a window switch as the secondaries start at 3000rpm and close at redline.
Ok guys, I understand the window switch concept. My goal is not install the most gas I can. That's easy. I was hoping I would be able to step up to 75 or 100 and still launch, but doesn't seem like it will happen. What I may do is install a push button on a coiled wire. I then can press and fire as needed.
