Default Transmission Swap

I just pulled my transmission out of my 90, i don't have the money or time to do a rebuild myself so i was thinking about using another 700r4 from a truck or camaro. But as i was reading up about it, would I have to swap the tailhousing part from my old core? Would that be the only thing i would have to do, or am i missing something else important? Thanks, i really appreciate this forum really has helped me.

Well as far as I know, the Corvette 700r4 seems to shift different than a truck transmission. There may be other parts that are different, line pressures, governor? So it might not behave the same like before but, unless the mounting is different, it shoudld work somehow.

Corvette trans is unique. Special Valvebody and seperator plate.

Can modify another trans to perform like a working C4 trans.

But will cost too.

And must have key knowledge of parts unique to the C4 valvebody.

Better off rebuilding your original or have it rebuilt for you.

I'm using a 4l60e off a passenger car. With a shift kit and bigger servos, the tranny shifts well enough for mid 10s. I have run 700r4s from passenger cars too. Need to cut 3/4" off the tailshaft and use the Vette tailshaft housing.

Well with my stroke of luck an 86 vette transmission showed up on craigslist today, (had a rebuild about 15000 miles ago). But thank you for all your help and ideas.
