'96 no start issue
Will the PKE light keep the car from starting?
The Opti is oily, could this keep it from starting? I'm not getting the same codes as I did before the last opti crapped out.
The shop that did it has a 1year parts and labor warranty on the distributor, but I want to make sure the problem before I take it back, They don't know how much oil to put in a car so I'm not real sure of their talents.
Oil inside the optispark can prevent high voltage meant to make a spark at the plug gap from happening. You should use a timing light during cranking to determine if you don't have spark. Replacing the optispark isn't cheap and I am sure you would want the shop to replace yours if it is oil causing it to not work which was their fault. Still, if they can't fill the crankcase with the proper amount of oil, I wouldn't trust them to do ANYTHING to my car!
Also I sense that you knew there was too much oil in the engine and ran it anyway. That is a serious owner mistake. If oil is coming out of the engine and you know it is overfilled, you should remove the excess oil without running the engine any further.
If you get spark, then you need to check the fuel pressure (35-42 psi) and see if it holds up for at least 1/2 hr after the ign is off. Check with a noid light if you are getting pulses at the injectors on each bank during cranking. See if the engine will start with starter fluid which proves you have a fuel delivery problem.

thanks for the other ideas, I'll do that.
Yes it was my fault for not draining the engine, but when I realized it was over full I was 3 hrs from home. It a roadside rest area, wasn't much I could do.
I do not trust this shop that did the replacement, but I need the car going.
The PKE will not affect the car not starting or running. I just sounds like a coincidence to me at least on the surface. Many vette owners never repair the PKE and the car runs just fine. The PKE receiver is usually defective when the light stays lit. The PKE light is internally controlled by the receiver itself and not much anything else would normally affect this self test function of the PKE receiver. Have heard of this fault many times before.
