Default Upgrade Hood Support Strut?

I've got an '87 with the non-pressurized telescoping hood support. As you all know, these hoods are bloody heavy and I've always thought about upgrading to the '88 and newer, pressurized strut. Now, I recall seeing "conversion kits" from the usual folks (Eckler's, MAM, CC, etc.) in the past but they don't appear to have them any longer. What parts are required (aside from the strut itslef)? The strut seems to mount with ball studs which my car does not have. Can the studs be installed in my brackets or do the brackets need to be replaced as well? If they need to be replaced, could these be found at one of the salvage places? I see CC has the lower bracket with stud (for $47!!!). Will the newer brackets bolt right in my car in place of the old pieces without modifications? Thanks for any advice!

go online and buy the monroe max hood supports for your car, did it to my 87, they're gas charged, when installed , you will no longer need the hood support and they are only $12 bucks each, and they fit, you wont need any extra parts.

I am using the pressurized strut with the later hood mount and a ball stud in existing lower bracket(removed strut rivet and replaced with correct size ball stud).

Thanks for the pic, AGENT 86! I see that CC carries just the ball stud (for like $15!) but do you know of somewhere else to get them? Also, do you know if the lower bracket from the 1988-up cars will simply bolt in place of the 1986L-1987 lower bracket without mods? I'm looking into the salvage route for the newer brackets. I'd like to keep my original strut and brackets intact if possible. Not sure why but I'm funny like that.

Keep a check in the Parts For Sale section for someone parting out a car. Buy the brackets and strut. I scored a ready to install package for $30.00.
