Default Autometer tach question on LT4

I just got a new Autometer tach and only need to make one more connection to get it going, I need to find out for sure where to connect the signal wire on my LT4. I got this from the Autometer website but it does not say to cut the wire or splice into it or what.
Tachometer Signal Wire Installation
for 5.7 LT1 engine(s)
You may get the tachometer signal from the PCM. Pin #13 of the red connector is a white wire, and will provide a useable 8 cylinder/4ppr signal.

I know some of you have done this so I am hoping you wont mind helping a fella out
Thanks in advance

If you splice wire in you keep stock tacho ; if you cut and join wire then you loose it

Easiest way is to find that wire at / under dash and splice there.
Saves having to run a wire from PCM through firewall for new tacho.
Look online for a pinout of the '96 dash cluster to identify correct white wire at cluster connector

Thanks, I did find the white wire on pin 13 of the red connector at the computer. I dont want the stock tach. So to be clear on this do I cut the white wire and connect to the wire that was going to the ECM or connect to the wire coming from the ECM.
I am thinking the white wire goes over to the ignition coil or module, doesnt the computer need the engine rpm for all its control functions?

No
Pin 13 on a OBDII PCM is the engine speed ( tach ) output signal to the cluster

Think about it ; the signal comes from PCM to the tacho

Find said wire at instrument cluster connector , trace wire back to a point where you can cut it , connect new tacho wire there.
done

Thanks for making it crystal clear, seeing it in the diagram helped clear things up.
