Howdy, I am looking at purchasing the pypes manifold back exhaust system for my 90. I currently have walker/dynomax ultra flo ss mufflers, the pypes system comes with Race Pro mufflers. I would like to know if they are comparable. I have heard that the race pro's are similar to the magnaflow's in sound. I am happy with my dynomax, good low tones, the drone is moderate.
I am happy with the dynomax but if the race pro offer more "bite" then I will go with them.
I am sure the performance gains are the same. If anyone has some experience with either of these mufflers I would greatly appreciate your opinions.
I have a Magnaflows on mine they have 2 1/4 pipes on them I was thinking having the pipes made in to 2 /12 or larger to give a more throaty sound out of them.
You can ask the muffler shop how far can they opening up the mufflers up for a larger pipe from cat to mufflers.
It should be cheeper than buying a new Exhaust system and should cost about $200.00 sure beats a grand for complete new exhaust system.

Thanks Marv for the info. If I was going to stay with a stock setup I would look into your route, however I am looking to improve flow with a x-pipe. The pypes manifold back has a x-pipe for the cheapest rate I've found. I have yet to inquire an exhaust shop to see how much it would cost for them to fabricate me a cross member pipe.

I getting a new front Y pipe coming off my headers this comming weekend and I was told by the muffler shop $120.00 out the door new convertor $130.00 OTD.
On the Corvette parts shops for a hooker Y pipe that willnt fit my y pipe it $259.00 A Ca Cat $179.00 and Up.
So I think $200.00 for Cat back I would go with a H pipe My self I just think a X pipe Is 2 into 1 back into 2 again yes they both kinda do the same thing but the H pipe is more of a true Dual exhaust in my eyes.
The exhaust flow is goine to take the path of least resistance straight though a H pipe will balance out exhaust pulses and pressuers as needed as a X pipe forces all in to 1 back into 2.
I was thinking and still thinking about getting a test pipe for the convertor so I can swap it in and out when needed the car should sound throater with out the cat acts like a extra muffler.
Wont go any faster with cutouts unless you just want it super loud
happy with the Dynomax.
Leave it then unless your mufflers clamp on then you can experiment.
You wont make any more with an X than straight pipes or an H imo unless the motor is highly modded even then IF there was a diff it wouldnt be noticebale, moreso on pitch than anything.
A Y pipe kind of already serves the purpose, no balance tube needed at rear

The only reason why I am considering a cutout is bc I know the TPI is a bit restricted in terms of getting flow in and out. A cutout wouldn't help make the it less restrictive?

An exhaust with cutout's won't help your tpi flow much better.

I have the same Pypes on my car, no road experience though till spring. I can say they will bark at full throttle and are very mellow at idle and lower RPM's. You can see through the muffler (and it's 2.5 all the way) just like a Magnaflow.
When I originally posted, someone on here wrote that they also have the full Pypes system and experience no drone at all..
Marv Grissom AFB is located in the lovely boring town of Peru Indiana. I am stationed there; my car is covered and currently buried under 20 inches of snow.
I have done tons of research on the matter of exhaust. As far as dyno's are concerned x-pipes do show an increase in performance when compared to a h-pipe, however to see this small difference I would have to be at the strip. The most I do is autocross and occasional road course racing. The one thing that I like about the x-pipe is the sound with a good muffler combo. Cut outs do sound nice but I would like something a bit quieter for around town.
Now I have heard that either h or x will provide better flow and thus better performance than a y-pipe. Is that true?
Chaos is that a HSR?? If so I've read that they have a hard time fitting under the hood.
Thats not the right Holley to have. You should have a pic of a carb. intake topped with a Holley carb.Maybe some square wagon wheels tooThought I'd take a fun jab at ya
