Anyone change their C4 from an auto to a standard shift car?
Any problem swapping pedal boxes ?
Been there, done that. Got the scratches to prove it.
Actually, finished the conversion on March 8, 2002. My car is 86 Z51 Coupe with 700R4. It now has a 1996 ZF6 in it.
Use the search feature, I have responded recently to several post like this one with parts list and costs. The pedals were not THAT bad, but was perhaps the hardest part.
You used the ZF flywheel? Did you investigate using the LT1 flywheel? I'm just curious as to why you went the expensive (well, to me!) way...
Um, the LT1 flywheel is a dual-mass also. Do you mean a non-Corvette part? The flywheel I am using is from a 1996 LT4 Vette. It came in the package deal for all the parts, so the flywheel in itself was not expensive.
But, I do have a SPEC aluminum flywheel to install. That is one of the things that caused me a problem. I installed the SPEC flywheel first, put everything together and first press of the clutch, I got a terrible grinding noise. The clutch fork when depressed would severely grind on the clutch pressure plate. I pulled the tranny in 2 hours, and put the dual-mass in.
The SPEC aluminum flywheel was thicker than the dual-mass by about 0.14 inch. Working with SPEC on a solution now. Transmission is on its way out of the car again, to swap flywheels.
Um, the LT1 flywheel is a dual-mass also. Do you mean a non-Corvette part?
Sorry, my bad. Yes, I meant the "Camaro LT1 flywheel" that has been talked about; with .090" faced off. I'm not sure what year or if it's a production part or part of some "High Performance" option...
Thanks for all your input guys.
I was thinking of putting in a Tremic 5speed rather than
the ZF.
Isn't the Tremec a Ford trans??? What would you use for a bellhousing? Custom?
Sounds like a lot more work than a GM...Driveshaft yoke; driveshaft length; clutch; input shaft length & splines; input shaft length...Lots of stuff to think about here...
where do you get a new zf tranny and how much are they going for?
A used one went on eBay last week for $1550...
New? A dealer might have one...Here's a quote from the description: "A rebuilt unit from the dealer goes for $5,357, with a $3,000 core charge on top of that! GM part # 12455189"...
I'm hoping that a boneyard trans will go cheaper...
