Default Cluster question

Got this 90 where the LCD comes on when you turn the key on but then turns off with no backlight, it will turn on when you shine a light in the sensor. I change all 5 lights behind the lcd still nothing. Any ideas?

Thanks

Maybe, my 94 seams to do the same, never really noticed, seemed to stand out on this car. Maybe I'm just a paranoid tard.

When my car had the factory cluster I always drove with the parking lights on. The backlight was always on then too, so I didn't notice it being dim. You could do the same if you want it lit.

You likely have cluster dimming circuit problems. Normal operation is to have bright backlighting in bright cockpit lighting and dimming with decreasing cockpit illumination. Also, try rotating the headlight control, it too sets the backlighting and if it doesn't, then you may have a defective control or a blown TAIL fuse. Check the fuse with an ohmeter, they have better eyes than you do.
