Looks ok, but you'll have to match balance it with your old balancer.

Hi,

No.
The replacement harmonic balancer on your LT-1 or LT4 Vette engine
is usually dynamically balanced with the crankshaft, flexplate-flywheel and predetermined bob weights attached to the crankshaft throws.
A classic Sterwart Warner crankshaft balance machine is used- stoboscopic equipped.
From the operators experience and readings he sees, he knows exact amounts to add or remove in grams for correct balance.

In your case I believe your engine is fully assembled right now.
The balancer shown in the photo you provided has lightning style hole drilled around the front face of it in a circular pattern.
Those holes are to install a solid roll pin for engine balance purposes.

When you remove your old harmonic balancer, you will see a solid pin in one of those lightning holes. It may be covered up in paint, dirt, grease, ect.
Poke around and through with a small screwdriver if unsure.
You should run across the solid roll pin pressed in.
When you find the pin, knock it out with a appropriate sized punch and a hammer.
Be sure to Note where it came from. Exact orientation.
Transfer it to the new balancer in the same location as the old balancer.

I may be entirely wrong, but I believe all factory GM LT-1 and LT4 engines had the balancer as shown in your photo.

If no balnce pin is present.
Don't worry about my directions earlier.

Just install the replacement balancer as shown in the GM Corvette FSM.

The balancer is internal balance, so there shouldn't be any special matching to check balance. Just bolt the new one on.

I was hoping there wouldn't be too much to it.

The only problem I see but was looking around and it might not be a big problem.... If you lay the old balancer flat on a table and the new one the same, the old one is about half inch taller ( wider)..

I will bolt the new one on, put the belt on and make sure the path is the same.

Thanks guys

There are a KILLZILLION Different balancers made for the SBC from 1955-1996.
Be sure you have the right balancer you need beforehand.

well I looked close at the old (stock) balancer I have and it does have a pin in one of the holes. However- I cant punch it threw as the back has no outward hole for the pin the slide threw. My new balancer has the holes for a new pin to go in.

Should I just take it to a shop or what?

LT1's are balanced by the flywheel, not the dampner/balancer. The new dampner should be neutral balanced, put it on and go.

I'm not sure how much was changed in your engine rebuild. But, if the stock components were reused and not internally balanced, you might have an issue if you didn't match balance flywheels.

cam, rods, springs, valves, rockers, clutch and flywheel. The clutch and flywheel are from spec and were balanced at factory.

Even with the pin IN the old harmonic balancer, the new one won't need one put in? I am hoping to just throw the new one on but if I need to have it matched I will.

I just went through this and ended up with a stock aftermarket replacement from Dorman from RockAuto. The Powebond PB1481N in your link wasn't the same size as stock so I decided against it. Let us know how it works if you use it.

well that link from rockauto has the exact balancer I need. How do I find that pin to put in to balance it?
