Hey guys, thought this would be a good place for a diagnosis:
I took my '89 coupe to the store the other day and when I came out, there was antifreeze all over the ground underneath her, it looked like it all just gushed out and I have no idea what the problem is. I drove her home and noticed the temp kept rising. I've been afraid to drive her since and my father in law said he thinks it might be the thermostat, but he's not a "vette" buy, just an overall mechanically inclined type. I don't mind taking it to the shop but I'd like to have some idea what the prob is before I do cause I'm afraid they'll try to put it to me(cause I don't know jack about cars at all) Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanx in advance!
You obviously have a leak somewhere. Don't think it has anything to do with thermostat. Best thing to do is to start the car, and let it warm up and check to see where it's leaking. Make sure you keep an eye on the temp. Look around all the hoses and check the radiator aswell to see if any coolant is leaking from it.
Fill the radiator up before you do anything else. You might just see it running out without starting the car. If not, put the cap on and run the car and see where it leaks.
Top off the coolant and monitor for leakage as you drive. Possibly you were low on coolant, causing the motor to overheat and boil over out the reservoir.
Lots of Coolant - absent the obvious like a blown hose - means it puked out of the Expansion Tank which is either a stuck thermostat or blown - probably leaky - head gasket. I'd go for the latter since it's an '89.

you probably have a broken, split or cracked hose. Let us know what you discover.
Thanks for the insight guys, I'm probably gonna wait til the weather gets a little better round here before I check it out cause even my garage is cold, but I'll let ya'll know how it turns out.
