anyone have any sugestions on repairing a small worn spot on a 1990 red leather seat? do the leather repair kits work ??? has ayone tried them ?
Is the color warn or do you actually have a hole in it? My 1990 red leather drivers seat also has a small warn spot in the color. I read a post a while back on another forum member who bought the leather dye and was not happy with it. I recall we was stating something about the dye kept rubbing off or something like that. I have not heard any thing else about how to fix it but I havent been really concerned with it enough to search past topics as my small warn spot is very small. You can try a search of past topics and I'm sure you will find the answer you are looking for.
Also, since you are new to the forum, post a topic title "hello, or New guy here" Give a little bio about yourself and your car (s). Welcome!
A while back Julliet posted her experirnce with a "Leather Magiic" like product that she used to quite effectively repair a hole in her driver seat.
I'm repairing holes in mine but color match is an issue.
These are jelly like polymers that cure on exposure to air. They adhere very well to the leather. The two issues are color match and getting a nice blend into the surrounding leather.
My red/red 90 with 64K had some leather problems. Find a car dealer that does lots of vettes or pretty good cars. Ask them who does their "upholstry touch up work". Some will have people come in occasionally and fix blems and does touch ups. Another option is ask some upholstry shops (car or furniture) who specializes in leather repair. A third source is upscale furniture stores that sells lots of leather furniture. They may know someone who has lots of experience doing leather repairs.
After getting some tears "patched" and coloring some areas, I swapped the seats. This is very easy, even on sport seats. (C4's)
Costs may vary but getting the exact color match, right materials and skill levels are important factors that caused me to seek professionals. I spent about $130 and the seat looked perferct. Also, if you remove the seat and take it to them, may be cheaper.
