Yea, definitely something someone else will have to tackle. I just know how it was when I put the AFR's on my 78. I thought, "Well, alright, I'll spend $1800 on the heads and that'll be it, right?" Wrong, $1800 wound up turning in to like $4000!!! I had to buy cometic gaskets that AFR recommended to run at $115/per side!!! Then I had to buy roller rockets, then chrome molly push rods, new valve cover gaskets, then this, then that, then my headers I had on there were too small, so I had to but hooker super comps as they were the ONLY header that was big enough to go around the exhaust valves on the heads(those were $700 headers)..oh yea, then ARP header bolts, and header gaskets, bla bla bla. It was like a neverending array of parts just for a head upgrade, lol. So I was like, I'll remember this the next time someone says something about heads...Hell, for $4000, I could almost buy a crate engine from summit puting out 350hp! Or, for the same price, buy a vortech charger to go on her. I'm probably guessing the cam would be the same way too? Do the cam and then why not go ahead and replace the timing chain, then this, then that all over again...lol I know, I'm , right?

That's what I did...replaced the timing chain, water pump, opti spark, spark plugs, etc. The headers are cheap, but it all adds up. I don't remember what I put into it, and honestly don't care. I love the way she sounds, and it's fun going by people with their windows rolled down on their cell phones.

Yeah, the "while you're there" stuff adds up quick. In my case the only reason I got the Hotcam when I did is because I had a lifter failure that damaged the stock cam. The Hotcam was actually cheaper than the stock replacement, so in she went. If it were not for that, and the fact that she was my only ride at the time, I would have waited until I could've gotten the heads ported, headers and a dyno tune all at once.

If there's no need to go into right now, I would build around it until you're ready. Headers, exhuast and go ahead get it dyno tuned to release some of those hidden ponies. Once you get that baseline done, additional changes are simple and much less expensive than the initial tune. Then, if you want to cam it, just collect the neccessary parts over time. When you get them all together, whala, one shot and you save tons in labor.

Yea, thats definitely the way it should be done, but ya see, I tend to have a little bit of a problem. I buy these parts over time and say "Ahh, well, I'll just save parts here and there and when I get them all saved up along with some $ to have the mput in, then I'll have it done...no hurries. But then, what happens? I see all the parts just laying there and think, "Geez, I'd sure love to get the rest of the parts I need and go ahead and build this thing right!" Impatience...need I say more? lol

Finally got the dyno chart. I don't like the dip in the early RPMs, but like my buddy said, the hot cam is a mid range cam, so what do you do?

My 95Z had the hot cam kit and Mac mids. Dyno graph was very similar - had the same dip @ 2700
