Broken flywheel?
i think that is what is a matter with my car last night it started rattling and it sounded like a loose heat sheild or exhaust somewhere. It then sounded like it was dragging on the ground.I looked under the car and nothing was hangin and the exhaust was tight .the sound quit when i got back in and I decided to get it home well it then started sounding like something was dragging on the ground but I was stopped and it will change speed with the engine i park drive whatever.
the flywheel cover has bulges on it like something tried to come out and has a shape in a small spot that looks like the teeth on the flywheel.
Anyway im gonna haul it to a shop as i think it is beyond me toolwise and i really do not want to try this on jack stands.
Anyone else have similar problems? How much did it cost? anything else get damaged in the process.
*sigh* Oh well looks like I might get a vigilante convertor sooner than i thought
The article doesn't give cost, but it does require a lift and special tools. Time was something like 3-4 hours.
Good Luck,
As the Corvette Fever article says, the flexplate frequently cracks near the crank bolts, and makes sounds like a concrete mixer. I've never met anyone who had changed the flexplate with the trans in-place, but I suppose it must be possible, if they did it... I like to eyeball everything and see what else is going on...
Flexplates are cheap. Just make sure to remove the converter with the trans (if you're re-using it). Push it back on the pump after unbolting it. Don't let it fall off. They can be a pain to get correctly installed on the pump after they fall off. Pushing them and spinning them usually does it...But this is a bitch *in* the car...And the trans will bind (and not bolt up) if it isn't seated correctly...
