OK, mine may be bad, so I want to check out what my options are. I have a '94 so I was wanting to maybe change to the 95 and above model. I heard that the '94 has a vented cap on it, so that would be good.
If I did update what pieces would I NEED to do the swap?
I just replaced mine, I stayed with the original one and covered the top with tons of black rtv. I ordered the vent kit to modify it to vent, but decided not to go that route. The place to get em is from Jeff K at Superior Chevy, I got mine for like $335 delivered, that was with the vent kit for like $10 bucks. My local dealer priced me $649!!! Of course they didn't have one either!
- 95-96 timing chain cover
- 95-96 optispark
- may need new pin for cam end or may be able to pull original pin enough to use correctly not sure on this, i swapped cams.
- need new opti spark connector ($75 cough)
- i updated to a lt4 roller timing set so im not absolutely p[ositive if you'd need to upgrade or could use the stock setup, but i would replace the timing chain if your gonne be that far anyhow and camshaft at that.
- it turns into a huge project if you upgrade opan has to come off
- starter, dust shield, radiator and shroud to have workign room to reinstall timing crank sprocket.. get the vent kit and save the money of gaskets if your not going to swap cams if cam swap i would upgrade!d
Dang this may turn into a really big project. I already planned on doing the hotcam kit, electric water pump, and double roller chain. So I guess it would be a good time to change out the opti also.
So I'm making a list of prices, can you guys help me out:
1)hotcam kit($460)
2)electric water pump & double roller chain($300)
3)cover($?)
4)opti($?)
