Default Distributor Problem?

When I accelerate from a dead stop my 1990 jerks rapidly as if I was pressing the gas peddle in rapid succession. It only smooths out when I get up to speed. It also seems like its missing. I was told it might be a distributor problem. Any other ideas?

How about a major tune up? Plus, wires, cap, rotor, filters, set timing, clean throttle body, set idle. Also is check engine light on pull codes.

Another possibility is low fuel pressure.

Check your fuel pressure under load. You'll need a gauge with a long enough hose to be able to tape it to the windshield and read it.
Has the fuel filter been replaced recently ?

I replaced the fuel filter a couple of months ago. It was running really rich also so I just replaced the Fuel Pressure Regulator. After replacing that it now runs a lot better and my MPG is where it should be. Everything seems fine except for the stuttering jerks during take off.

Sounds like it could be the throttle position sensor.
