All torque converters have a stall speed, all automatic transmissions (essentially) have a torque converter, think of it has a clutch for your auto tranny. That is the engine RPM where the if the back tires are NOT turning, the converter will not allow the engine to spin any faster (essentially). A converter with a higher stall speed will let your engine wind up higher and faster, thus getting you engine into it's power band faster, thus making you faster. Check out this link for more info.
