Anyone got a good idea here? I have it mostly installed. There is about 1/3" left to go on. I was able to tap it on with a huge socket up to where it is now. There isn't all that much room to swing (gently) a mallet of some sorts. I need to get this in, the cam and upper sprocket/chain so that I can close up the timing cover and put the new oilpan gasket on. :)
Scorp,
I'm doing the exact same thing to my car right now...take the socket you used to bang it on with; take a few large washers and the crank damper bolt and draw the sprocket onto the crank with the damper bolt.
Hope this will help!

Or you can slide the old timing gear over the new one and use that to hit against. Thats what I generally do, it gives you a nice flat surface to tap against.
Cooking 101,.... When Mom is not around, bring it into the kitchen. Grab her favorite frying pan and a couple drops of oil (Veg or motor, don't care). Use the oil for heat conduction from the pan to the sprocket. You are looking for even heating. Fire up the stove and have at it. The idea is not to heat the snot out of it. You don't want to burn the oil. It won't take much. Give it enough time so the whole sprocket is the same temp. Bring it outside,.. w/ some gloves pick it up and put it on. Slides right on, no bang required. Get the pan back inside, before Mom see's you. BTW Use the +2' keyway: chains stretch.

Worked like a charm!!! Thanks. :)
I've got the new cam, lifters, timing set, and lifter retainers in. :)
