Mick and Chuck, Thanks very much for your replies. Looks great powdercoated, Mick. I see if the powdercoater can match the Chevy orange I intend to paint the block. What about the dipstick? Can the OEM tube and dipstick be used and if so I assume I'll need to remark the dipstick?

The OEM tube and dipstick can be used. Just note that "full" will now be halfway between the "add" line and what used to be the "full" line. This is because the windage tray sits lower in the Canton pan.

Excellent info. Many thanks, Jim.

On my LTX I used a Canton for the previous build. The fit wasn't the best. I had to take the pan off and flip it over and flatten the rails out. I also had oil leaks at several welds and i had to remove the pan ad have the insides welded to try and stop it. Perhaps its the synthetic oil finding its way out but it was pretty bad.
On my new build I use a Jeff johnston Billet fab pan. Puts the Canton to shame. In EVERY way but in the end the Canton can do the job too.
Thanks Larry. I did look at CHAMP, but the initial responses I got were that the Canton fit and I wanted to get this ordered so went with the Canton. I guess we'll see how it goes. Hope you're doing well.
I have done some powdercoating for a guy in Chevy orange, it looks great. I believe he got it at Eastwood's.
Good info, Chuck. I may have to buy the powder as this guy probably won't have actual Chevy orange, and I'd like it to match the block as close as possible, so it's nice to know Eastwoods has it. I like Eastwoods as they're happy to ship to APOs. Hope the POR Engine Enamel Chevy orange will be a match for the Eastwood Chevy orange powder.
Why not just do the pan with POR-15? That way you know it will match and that stuff is probably as durable as powder. I knew a guy who used the gloss black POR and he did it without gloves,,,,,,, he wore it for 2 weeks.

Gotcha, I went with the 7qt stock type pan, I did not want the Road Race style,

I've been kicking that idea around, Chuck. I did my stock block with POR-15 and then their black engine enamel over that and was amazed at how tough it was. Normally after painting you need to be careful with carb cleaner, but I got a bit on this and saw no discoloration or paint coming off when I went to wipe it up. I then tried spraying half a can of carb cleaner on it and it didn't even soften. Not surprised your friend wore it for 2 weeks! I may just POR it then.
