Getting a Summit 150100 block for my '86 Pace Car. Can't find a stock oil pan, so wondering if anyone has a recommendation for an aftermarket.
Thanks.
Call any of the Corvette Salvage yards...they have hundreds of stock pans to sell you...
Somewhere I have one stashed in a box...I used a Canton Road Race pan on the racing motor and never needed the stock one that came with the engine. Stock block still has one on it.
They are out there...you just need to go outside of the box to get what you want.
Hi Ray,
I've got the Canton pan on my engine but it may be overkill on yours. Are you going to do any racing or autocrossing with it? The Canton pan is a honey, fits perfect and I have had absolutely no problems. You will need a different pickup for that pan. My old pan had a crack in it or I would have given it to you.

Thanks Chuck. Which Canton pan are you using? I'll be street/strip with the occasional track day (Silverstone/Donnington). The stock had been fine, but I'd like to keep the original motor as complete as I can. I'm looking for something that someone else has used and is known to fit without "persuasion". Yours seems to fit that bill.

I hear ya Joe, the problem I have being in England is the toll free numbers for these salvage yards are not toll free and then there's the time difference. Email seems to be hit and miss with them. I will call as a last resort though, thanks.
Thanks, they look good, especially the Canton. As I said, I'm looking for one that just plain fits. Maybe Chuck will let me know which one he went with. It may be the 15-240T you pointed out.
When I was out at CENTCOM during the Summer of 2001, we had a little Corvette get together at the Hooters on Hillsborough. Did we meet there?

The 240T is what I have on mine now. I went with a stock pan when I built the new motor. Did a bunch of autocrosses and some track days @TWS and then the next event I spun 3 rods and cracked the crank in 2 places.
Needless to say the next rebuild got the pan upgrade. It fits with no persuasion. It is good insurance...worth every penny I spent on it.
Peace of mind at the track is priceless. I only have to worry about braking points and apexes now, not how long I'm pulling G's through a turn and keeping an eye out for the oil pressure to tank.

The 240T is the one I have also Ray, you can look on the Canton site to see which pickup is needed. I went with a Melling select pump and it is totally different from stock. My engine is a 383 and the Canton fit with no mods at all. I really like mine and I think you would too.
Finally got the Canton 15-240T and it looks like it fits the block fine and no issues with the stroker crank, thanks for the recommendation guys. It is a big sucker though. None of you guys had any problems with it fitting in the car? Any of you put one in a convertible?

I put the motor in the car with the pan on....it barely cleared the motor mounts by approx. 1/4" (.250) on each side. However it clears the cross member well.
Mine went in the car like a hand in a glove. And yes, it is a big pan, you will realize just how big when you go to warm the engine up in the winter, it takes a long time to warm up 7 qts. of oil.

Mine takes 9 qts.
With the Ron Davis radiator w/oil cooler built in and the -10 lines, I needed 2 additional quarts. Good thing I don't live up north.
Mine fit okay but the crank hit by the oil filter. I had to pound the pan out there a little bit. I filled the pan with water and it had the worst control going forward. Not sure I would buy another one. Mine takes around seven quarts to fill, large oil filter plus external oil cooler. Six quarts brought the level flush to the large baffle.

H2O isn't exactly the right medium to use to test the baffles with...it IS a lot thinner than oil (even fully up to temperature).
The only other choice is a dry-sump system, and the expense and packaging to get it to fit would make it hideously expensive to do...I've researched it in detail with my machinist.
I can only reiterate that my 1st "new motor" lasted less than 5 months with a stock pan on the car. With the Canton it has now lasted 10 years with no issues. Hundreds of autocross events and lapping days later, it still runs strong.

Search on "Armando" pan in C4 tech. Oil control on the 240 Canton pan has been talked about for awhile. Here is a good thread:
