Default Final Mockup and Completed Single Plane Intake

Well I finished the mock up and welding of the single plane LS1 TB conversion for my new race engine this weekend. The pictures are the intake on top of the old engine (for mockup). I should have my completed shortblock back by the end of the month, and then I will start a thread on the engine build up, but wanted to share the completed top end fab.

Looks good. Is it actually sitting on the dist cap?

No, there is actually about 1 piece of cardboard thickness in between. I have room to put the wires on and rotate it a bit, but I am going to use a small cap style dist. to give me more clearance. Using the HEI for mockup was kind of the worst case scenario and it just barley fit, so the smaller cap should give me plenty of room.

Looks good! Did you do the welding yourself?

Thanks! No I have a friend who did it for me. I can barley do steel welding.

Nice setup Kubs. Anyway to turn the 90 degree hat around and ram in some cold air with the filter mounted in front of the radiator? I know the cowl is a low pressure area, but that area of the engine compartment is also hotter than Hades with the heat from the engine. Willie

I plan to build a shield around the filter to enclose the cowl area and keep engine heat out.

Cowl induction at work. You could just cut a round hole in the hood and go straight up!

The way my race class works is you pick and choose your mods based on a points system. Each mod is worth so many points. If I have any forward facing hood scoops it would cost me points. By using the cowl Im getting the same induction effect but without taking any points.

Its a manifold and fuel rail kit from Accel that uses a World Castings manifold.

I think this is the manifold that is then machined for injectors.

http://www.worldcastings.com/product...rb-flange.html

The Accel kit with fuel rails was $515 from Summit, and the 80mm BBK throttle body I got off ebay for $85 bucks with sensors. The cost alone made this a no brainer for me over a mini ram, or stealth ram, and I should have comparable if not better HP and torque curves with a custom grind cam on my 355.

Thanks!

Yeah this is what I ordered as an Accel unit:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ACC-74139/

When mine showed up it looked a bit different than the one in the picture so I called Accel and they said they changed the manifolds in this package to the World one I got. I really wanted those Vacuum ports, but I guess it wont hurt to drill and tap mine in the same location.

That or drill and tap them into some 1/4 plate and then weld it onto the back or side of your elbow.

I'm really curious to see how this turns out.

No not a "turtle RAM" just a turtle. Its just a little hump in the bottom of the intake that is supposed to help with torque I guess.
