This was my reason for post #13. When they went to ODB2, it is my understanding they added the fore/aft O2 sensor setup to further deter those wanting to meddle with their cats. Plus, it was a double-check for emissions. (It was an easier, less-expensive route than 50-state inspections.)
The conversion to a second O2 sensor is not unique to the Corvette either. It's due to the change in the computer generations. At least that's what my exhaust shop said.
Funny thing though....At the time I learned this, we had two cars with ODB2 and my ODB1 Corvette. If you looked at the tailpipes alone, you'd swear the vette had the lower emissions -- because the pipes weren't as black.
