Default Track Car Cam

Looking for a cam for my 95 LT1 which is used only at the track(road Atlanta, Cmp, roebling). I will be doing headers and roller rockers too. Everything else on the motor will be stock. I would sacrifice some power for reliability. Any recommendations?

Hydraulic flat tappet or roller?

How much displacement? 350 or 383?

No, I'm running a custom grind with the same duration as the 503, but with much higher lift.

Any idea on a ballpark power difference between that and an LT4 hot cam kit like this?

Try this....COMP Cams 280 Magnum on a 108 LCA in @ 4 degrees advance.

Valvetrain: COMP 26918 beehive springs, magnum roller tip rockers 1.6:1 ratio, COMP Magnum pushrods.

If you have the bucks, upgrade to an as cast EQ, Dart, RHS or Patriot head.

With a good flowing intake this build dynos at 440hp at 5500 rpm and 440 ft lbs. @4200 rpm.

The previous cam is a 3119 grind number from COMP....custom grind...takes 10 days to receive and will cost $300.

Very informative thread. What is the redline of the cams recommended with the exact setup the OP has(stock head, headers, roller rockers?)

After a bunch of reading I like the cc503 with 26918 beehive springs. I know which locks, rods and retainers to get, but the rockers they recommend are 1.52. Are these correct for this setup?

I would use 1.6rr on that cam, as I think it would work out better than the 1.52s. The heads on these cars seem to like mid .5xx lift.

The Hot Cam should peak 5800-6000 rpms, CC 503 6000-6200. Redline depends more on the valvetrain and lower end capabilities.

You are definately going to want to maximize your redline. I think you can go to about 6500 RPM with stock style lifters.

The hotcam is waaaay too mild. I'd go with a high lift, .575 or so (with 1.6RR). If you don't mind losing a little driveability you could even go higher. But you'll need snappier springs to get them closed quickly enough.

And with stronger springs comes better pushrods, and lifters. Im not sure at what point the stock lifters start to compress but if you go too stiff on the springs it can actually collapse a hydraulic lifter. Not good.

With stock heads I dont really see a need to go higher than .575, ported heads yes higher would work better. I think the cc503 with 1.6 rockers and a GOOD exhaust (longtubes with dual pipes out back) would get you where you are looking to go without going to a custom grind.

Which roller rockers? I am thinking non self aligning, but having trouble locating what will fit and the plates to go with it.

I am not sure which rockers clear OEM valve covers, but any 1.6 that fit a 3/8" stud will work. If you go non self-aligning you can use these guideplates:

FWIW I am using these rockers by Scorpion on my current engine build:
