I did a stupid thing this weekend,As i do every spring and mid summer,I clean my in take,Well i was cleaning my mass air flow sensor and after i sprayed some carb cleaner through it,I was wiping it out,And the other half came out and said she was going to the store and then started talking to me,And i must of stop paying attention and as i was wiping i broke off the wires inside of it.And i did not know it until i put it back together and the check engine was on and when i gave it gas it backfired. So i know i gotta order a knew one,But is there any way it could be bypass to drive it or is it done until i get the new one

you're screwed - start looking for a replacement. BTW, good one - blame it on the wife - it's her fault - make her buy you a new one!

wait a minute. how did you get to the wires? didn't you have screens on the front and back of the housing?

If the MAF were to be unplugged wouldn't it go into limp mode and be drivable?

You have to keep it stock or the value will go down.

Stock one is a Bosch, make sure you get one specific to the '85 though. They are not all the same.

its been my understanding that the 86+ models will work on the 85, but the 85 model will not work on 86+. i could be wrong, but thats the wisdom i gathered when i was shopping for a new one for my old 85. i ended up ordering a new one from mid america, worked good for the time i had it.

Take a look at this thread. You may wanna consider this as I think the MAF is pretty expensive. More work but better gains. I will probly do this if mine fails.

You still need a MAF. I did the swap and am using the original MAF. 85 and 86-89 are different, no clue as to the differences. Summitt says the Granatelli will fit all years. Seems like a better solution than the insane cost of a new Bosch.

Are you handy with a soldering iron?

You might be able to solder the wires back on temporarily until you get a new MAF.
