All 84-87 cars used a 255/50-16 tire regardless of the suspension package. The 88 car had 16" tires and wheels as standard but it was the first year for 17" tires wheels and they were an option.

Goodyear "Gatorbacks" were the only tire that came from the factory for the early cars.

what was different? was it just wheel width? i know i've seen a wider and more narrow wheel of the 84-87 vintage

They all used the 255/50/16 gatorback tires.

The base suspensions had 16x8.5" wheels.

The Z51 suspensions had all four 16x9.5" wheels except the 84 Z51 used 8.5" front and 9.5" rear.

The 87 Z52 used the 16x9.5" wheels.

The Gatorbacks stick like glue, but they are NOISY. Couldn't hear myself think in my last '77 Vette when I put the Gatorbacks on it.

A mechanic friend of mine thinks I have a bad bearing in my differential. I keep telling him my Dana 44 is just fine; its only the Gatorbacks.
