Hey gang, my car has been idling kinda high lately (around 950 RPM). I was beginning to wonder if my car is going into close loop because i'm not seeing the RPMs drop when i'm cruising on the highway. Anyway, today i got a P0200 code (Fuel injector circuit). Can anyone shed some light on what this means? Do I have a bad injector, electric circuit problem or what?
Check each injector with a ohm meter (VOM)--sounds like you have a bad injector-if one or two are reading a lot higher or lower than the others--that's likely your problem.
Thanks Twisterup. I'm leaning towards stuck in open loop. I should have provided some more details about my plight. This is a 96 Corvette LT1 engine in an 81 C3 Corvette. All systems are connected and its smog legal. A friend of mine did a similar swap in a 68 Chevy truck and he said that his engine would stay in open loop and consequently burn more fuel. His truck would run fine initially but after 30 minutes or so the idle would climb and it would start to run rough. He did a dyno tune and the problem went away. I had been planning to do a dyno tune anyway so I am going to start with that. I started the car today and she ran fine all day. I will keep you posted. Thanks for the expeditious reply.
Update - Clear the P0200 and drove the car for about 20 minutes and the check engine light not only came on but flashes. Flashes mean Catalytic converter damage emanate if you keep driving this way. I took it to my friends shop. Ran the diagnostics for Open loop and there was no issue. System does go into close loop. However, cannot duplicate the P0200 code. I have since put 305 miles on the car and nothing! She runs like a charm. I hate those kind of problems. I know its going to come back at the worst time.
I found my P0200 problem. My power distribution wire was leaning on my transmission and the insulation was burning off and it was beginning to short out.
Sorry gang for the delay but i thought i was going to have to seek a psychiatrist because this problem was driving me crazy.
Well for starters, although that wire was a problem, it was not the solution to the problem of interest.
So i systematically diagnosed the problem. I ohm checked each resistor. They checked out good but I always wanted to try the Bosch injectors so i changed the injectors anyway.
Then i measured the voltage across each injector; with battery power and under engine power. all good readings.
Then i did a continuity check on the harness from injector to PCM. All good.
Then i changed the PCM. No luck.
I am now going to replace the harness as we modified and soldered the 96 corvette harness and I think something went south in our repair work and too much time and trouble to diagnose. I have ordered a new harness from Howell Electric. Should be installed by July 10th. I will keep you guys posted.
