Car's been running perfectly, but I had no flashers. After locating the flasher unit and replacing it the car won't start. No click, the lights don't dim, nothing. I've check all fuses and wiring connections in the area. Disconnected the battery for 15 minuted, reconnected, same issue.
The next logical step is to drop the starter, IMO. Any other ideas? I'm guessing I knocked something under the dash in that tight space. Anything I should be looking for? Thanks in advance for the help.
If your 84 is like my 87, the flasher is near the ecm, so you might have dislodged a connector on the ecm. Take a look at what is around the flasher that you might have bumped.
I can't find a single loose connection. Starter is good, battery is good. Power when the key is on, no click from solenoid. Lights don't dim, but if I hold the key in the start position security light flashes.
I found a small square box mounted to the right of the ECM with 2 screws. (looking up from underneath passenger side door/fuse panel to my left) There are no connections going to it, but no wires or harness not plugged in. It it is next to the flasher unit.
I did find what appears to be the same box plugged into a matching wiring harness, with the following printed on it: 14078902 / Z-8247 TRW / MADE IN USA / 8232 (/ represents line break) I can see the plug has A, B, C, D, E labelled on it, but only 4 wires going in. They look like pink, black, pink, orange (A-D) Any idea what this box is? Is it missing a wire? Could this prevent my car from starting?
Maybe not. After a google search this appears to be the cooling fan relay or Bose amp relay.
After a couple hour a day for almost a week now I found my problem, now I need help resolving it!
What I thought was an amp power wire left over from the previous owner turns out to be a newly run wire to the "S" terminal on the solenoid. It ran into the cockpit under the dash. When I was done with the flasher unit I found this wire laying on the floor with black tape around the end. After removing the black tape I found a butt connector poorly crimped. Following the wire lead me to the "S" side of the solenoid.
Where would this connect under the dash? Thanks for everyone's assistance!
Also I have a Haynes service manual, not the greatest wiring diagrams, or in depth information. (Not like they used to be IMO)Is Chilton a better buy, or something else?
Sounds like you need to buy a FSM from Helm Inc. Take the haynes manual and chilton book and use them for a door stop. Its hard to go over each wiring connection on the boards. The book above is complete and will show every wiring connection. Best investment you'll ever make

PO may have had a switch in the cockpit to kill the starter circuit. Old style anti theft device.
Check the found wire with a test light, if no light when the ignition is turned to start you need to find where that connection failed or the hidden switch.
The PO may have removed the original "s" wire from the starter & ran a separate circuit for his theft device. Check the wires at the starter for a wire that is not connected & taped to the starter cable. This will probably be the original wire for the "s" terminal.
