Default Perplexing 4l60E Issue

This one has really got my buddy and I scratching our heads. His car was working fine and suddenly started falling out of 2nd and 4th gear, like it was going into neutral. It would go into gear just fine, but then it would fall out.
We figured the bands must be good or it wouldnt stay in gear part of the time so we started by replacing the complete Servo (twice) to no avail. Same issue.
Pulled the trans and had everything rebuilt with new HD parts, there really werent any issues inside that could be seen other than normal wear, but since it was out and apart might as well upgrade it and put new wear items in. Still no change in its behavior.
Verified that the computer is calling for the 2nd and 4th gear, we cannot find a problem there.
We figured the only thing left is the valve body so that was replaced this morning with a brand new corvette valve body with new selenoids. No Change.
So what the heck is left? Its great that his trans is all new now, but this hasnt fixed the issue. It will shift into second and then it will fall out into neutral. Same with 4th. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Roy

Hi Roy,

The 3-4 clutch may be gone or wasted.

Bad news if I am right.

Everything inside the trans is new. It has all been replaced since the problem started.

Something went wrong then with the 3-4 clutch hydraulic circuit(s).

You will have to troubleshoot and possibly disassemble your work to discover what went wrong.

I am not troubleshooting in person with you.

I can only give you tips and advice from here.

Worn stator sealing surface, or sealing rings would be my first guess, but it could be many possible things.

Well as mysteriously as this problem appeared all at once, now it has disappeared entirely on its own. The tranny has been working perfectly for 2 weeks now.
I can only assume there was something stuck inside of the case somewhere and it coughed it up. Glad it is working right, but didn't really learn anything here.

Maybe luck is on your side.

If no problems & you are happy with the thought of leaving it alone then do.

Myself I would have to drop the trans pan and remove the valvebody for further investigation.

Maybe your trans will be OK for some time or years yet.

Maybe not.
